Mango Butter Seed Oil

MANGO BUTTER (MAGNIFERA INDICA SEED BUTTER)

Origin & Source

Mango Butter is derived from the kernel found inside the pit of the mango fruit (Mangifera indica), a tree native to South Asia and cultivated for more than 4,000 years throughout India, Southeast Asia, Africa, and tropical regions worldwide. While the mango fruit has long been prized for nourishment, the seed kernel has traditionally been used in regional healing balms to protect skin and hair from heat, sun exposure, and dryness. Cosmetic-grade mango butter is produced by gently pressing or extracting the fat from the dried seed kernels and refining it for purity and stability.

Biochemical Profile & Composition

Mango Butter is rich in stearic and oleic acids, giving it a semi-solid structure with excellent emollient properties. It also contains smaller amounts of linoleic and palmitic acids, along with natural antioxidants, tocopherols (vitamin E), and phytosterols. This balanced fatty acid profile allows mango butter to nourish and soften the skin while remaining lighter and less occlusive than some heavier butters.

Skin Function & Benefits

On the skin, Mango Butter provides deep softness and long-lasting comfort without a greasy feel. It helps reinforce the skin’s natural barrier, reducing moisture loss and improving elasticity. Because of its mild, non-irritating nature, mango butter is especially well-suited for sensitive, dry, or compromised skin. Regular use supports smoother texture, improved suppleness, and a naturally healthy appearance.

Formulation Role & Sensory Profile

In formulation, Mango Butter is valued for its smooth, creamy texture and excellent spreadability. It melts easily at skin temperature, giving products a luxurious glide and a soft, velvety after-feel. Compared to heavier plant butters, mango butter contributes richness without heaviness, making it ideal for whipped butters, creams, balms, and emulsions that aim to feel indulgent yet breathable.

Typical Uses in Skincare

Mango Butter is commonly used in body butters, facial creams, lip balms, hand and foot treatments, cleansing balms, solid moisturizers, and after-sun products. Its stability and gentle profile make it suitable for both leave-on and rinse-off formulations, as well as products intended for daily use.
